The word entertainment has evolved to cover anything that affords pleasure, diversion, or amusement. It can be as simple as solving a crossword puzzle or watching a TV show, and it can be as elaborate as a ball or even a world championship. Activities that were used for hunting or war have become spectator sports, while activities that were part of daily life — cooking, for example — have been transformed into culinary competitions and TV shows. Often, these familiar forms of entertainment are remixed into different mediums and can be enjoyed by global audiences. Entertaiment may be abbreviated to entmt on a flier or in industry news publications, but this is uncommon outside of these contexts.
